Proudly Connecting Kenyans In Mexico
Kenyans Living in Latin America
Welcome to the official page of Kenyans Living In Latin America (KELLA). This was created to facilitate communication between the community and government (embassies) in our region. Its also a hub for us to connect and share our values together as Kenyans. Respect, love and unity are our core principles.
Though Mexico is geographically located in North America, it shares deep cultural, historical, and linguistic ties with Latin America. Kenyans living in Mexico can still benefit from being part of an organization like Kenyans Living in Latin America (KELLA) in several ways:
1. Networking Opportunities
Professional Growth: KELLA provides a platform to connect with other Kenyans in Mexico and across Latin America who may have valuable insights, resources, or job opportunities.
Shared Experiences: Members can share knowledge about navigating work and life in Mexico, from obtaining visas to understanding cultural nuances in professional spaces.
2. Community Support
Social Connections: Living abroad can be isolating, but being part of a community like KELLA fosters a sense of belonging and cultural pride.
Newcomer Guidance: For those newly arriving in Mexico, KELLA members can offer advice on housing, local services, and integrating into Mexican society.
3. Cultural Exchange
Celebrating Kenyan Culture: KELLA provides an avenue for Kenyans in Mexico to celebrate their heritage through events such as Kenyan Independence Day, food festivals, and cultural showcases.
Engaging with the Latin American Diaspora: Mexico’s location allows Kenyans to engage with broader Latin American networks, promoting cross-cultural connections and collaborations.
4. Resource Sharing
Legal and Consular Advice: Kenyans in Mexico often face challenges due to the lack of a Kenyan consulate in the country. KELLA can act as a liaison, offering guidance on how to connect with the Kenyan Embassy in Washington, DC, and addressing common legal concerns.
Information Hub: Whether it's about accessing education, healthcare, or navigating immigration laws, KELLA can serve as a repository of useful information.
5. Advocacy and Representation
Raising Awareness: KELLA can advocate for the needs and challenges of Kenyans in Mexico, such as the lack of direct diplomatic representation, encouraging stronger Kenya-Mexico ties.
Uniting the Diaspora: Through KELLA, Kenyans in Mexico become part of a larger diaspora that amplifies their voices on global platforms.
6. Travel and Exploration Opportunities
Regional Connections: As part of a Latin American-focused organization, members in Mexico may benefit from networking with Kenyans in other countries for regional events, travel opportunities, and collaborations.
Cross-Border Support: If traveling in Latin America, members can rely on KELLA contacts for local assistance and guidance.
